that Our forces have possesion of both Richmond and Memphis, which if true is glorious news indeed and if we are equally as successfull here (which we are bound to be as we are making no calculations on being whipped) then I think they are about at the end of their String. I see by the paper that the European powers are about to interfere on the wrong side to suit Seceshia and I think Napoleon gives them some good and pointed advice. We are haveing the most beautiful weather I ever experienced as it is clar and warm and the roads are getting good. The health of Our Regiment is now quite good, but there is considerable of sickness in many of the Regts. here, There are a great many citizens here now on visits to their friends and many of them have been awaiting 2 weeks to see the great battle but I am fearful that they will all be disappointed for Gen. Halleck issued an order today for all who did not belong to the Army to leave immediately therefore unless the battle commences before moring I fear they will not be accomidated In my last I wrote that I would send money by Mr. Buchannan of Attica. but after I wrote that I saw Thos A. Goodwin of Indianapolis who is State agent and makes that a part of his buisness to collect and forward money for the Soldiers Therefore I gave it to him, but I do not know whether he has started home yet or not, I gave him $140.00, Gov. Morton has sent two additional Doctors to each Indiana Regt. that is here so that if we have a great battle I hope we will have plenty of Medical help. at least, You wrote that Dr. Baker was comeing to the 46th Regt. which must be a mistake as he has not yet come and they have their compliment in that Regt. already. I think California could hardly beat the prices that we are obliged to pay the Sutlers for such things as we buy of them here, and I would
