more robust than I ever was in my life before, I went to the Hotel today and got dinner which is the first meal I have eaten in a house since the 3rd of last Dec. in Louisville. but if none of them have more of a variety than what I set down to today. I will prefer to remain in camp during meal times for we have more of a variety and as a general thing full as well cooked, We are in luck again this summer in haveing abundance of blackberries as the country is full of them and they are now ripening quite fast, Peaches are also very abundant and many of them will be ripe within one month. New potatoes are also becomeing quite common. therefore we intend to have something more to eat than hard bread and fat Pork, if we are lucky enoughf to get to stay here The Army are fast repairing the Rail Roads evry where they are going and within 2 weeks we will be able to go from Memphis East to Chatanooga. and also to all the northern points by way of Nashville and Louisvill by R.R. Locomotives and Cars as yet are very Scarce as the Secesh either run them off South or destroyed them but they are being forwarded here quite fast now and the ones burnt by the Rebels are being repaired as fast as possible consequently there will soon be plenty of rolling Stock to supply the demands. There was an order issued a few days since for us to turn over all the tents we had, but three for the men and one for the Officers of each Company. Consequently that destroyed my messing arrangements as I was forced to go into the tents with Patterson & McKinney. which was a bitter pill but we had to swallow it; But I am bound to keep a stiff upper lip and claim and maintain my rights. therefore we will get along, I see in the Herald that Emma Huston at Billingsville is dead, She died of Consumption. Yesterday I received a letter from Sister Nancy of June 9th. She reports all well, She says that Jo Pierce has out generaled Newt, and has got his boy on the train again as news boy which throws Newt out of a job and consequently he has nothing to do. I am very
