The weather was very warm but by Starting at 3 Oclock in the morning and marching until 10 and then laying over until 3 or 4 in the evening & then going until 9 or 10 at night we got along very well.  You no doubt heard that the rebels had captured Murpheysborough 30 miles from Nashville which was the cause of our hasty march.  They ware making preperations to take Shelbyville the night we arrived there but by us marching 30 miles that day we succeeded in getting in ahead of them consequently they did not attact it  Although we have been on half rations all this time we have not suffered with hunger as it is a very plentiful country and the boys make
