protecting him while he is enjoying the cumforts and pleasures of his family and the ones who are guarding him, Sleeping in the yard of the mansion they are guarding eating hard crackers and fat meat and hundreds of miles from the bosoms of their families who they have not had the pleasure of seeing for months and no prospect of seeing for months to come. I say when I see all this it makes me begin to feel desperate. We have been coaxing them long enough now lets see what driveing will do; I was much surprised to see some of the citizens of Liberty here yesterday, they are Wm Ming Abe Pierson and Mr McCullough. They are engaged in bridge building and get $1.75 pr day and board. They are now at Manchester repairing a bridge at that place. Tell Mrs Sering that William is well and able for duty and rations and hard marching. He Sometimes has Dihorhea for a day or two which weakens him for a short time but in a day or two he is all right again. He Still messes with me. Cap. Patterson is expecting a return of his resignation evry day approved by Gen. Buell and no doubt it will come so, as it has been approved by all whose hands it had passed through up to Buell. Who is Miss M.E.A. of Roseburg and who is Billingsville who have been making such fools of themselves though the columns of the Herald lately. John Macy and R. North are Still behind somewhere, we have not heard from them since we left Huntsville. Len Lynn is behind at Wartrace it is said he is sick. He was off on a Spree when we left in Company with 2 others who rejoined us yesterday and report him sick. Bub Thatcher Deserted about a week since. It is reported that he was captured by Nelsons Pickets at Murphysborough but we do not know how true it is
