Tullahoma Tenn. Aug. 11th 1862 Mrs. Sarah Davis My dear wife Yours of the 2nd & 3rd inst come to hand yesterday and was joyfully received but it caused a pang of deep sorrow and anxiety to hear of the suffering of our dear little babe but I cincerely hope that ere this time she is well again, and oh how anctious I will be concerning her until I hear again. I am glad to hear that you are all well with the exception of her, and to hear that the children are going to School again, by the by, who is their teacher. I was much amused at your garden trade. Did Thomas get out the attachment before you bought and paid for the garden, if he did not get it out until after you had paid for it, then I think he is too late and you can hold it If I was at home I would try it at any rate In regard to the articles you spoke of which the Ladies have collected for the Hospital I hardly know what to say. Sometimes they are needed and at other times there is a surplus on hands. So much so that the attachees of the Hospital has in one or two cases had to distribute them out among the Wardens nurses &c for want of transportation The calico shirts you speak of are a good thing but check or hickory are much better. If the boys of Our company could get a few dark colored Shirts and some Socks they would come very acceptable and would be thankfully received. They have been unable to draw any Socks for Some time and the kind they do get are but poor things to ware, consequently they are soon gone and many a poor fellow has suffered Severely with blistered feet while marching for want of Socks. All the kind of Shirts that they have been able to draw lately are white flannel or linsey, which it is impossible for them to keep white after the first few days ware. These are the only things that are particularly needed and if the Ladies are desireous of sending anything let them send a Small box full of such articles to this place in my care or any one els they chose and it will
