1 Vervilla Tenn, August 21 1862 Mrs. Sarah Davis Dear Wife Yours of the 11th inst come to hand 3 days since but owing to my being on picket and guard duty ever since I have had no oportunity of answering it until this morning. I was glad to hear from you and delighted to hear that our dear little babe was likely to get along with hopes of her final recovery. When I hear from you that you are all well then I can await with some degree of patience until I hear from you again, for then I feel as though all was well at home but when I hear that some of you are Sick then I feel anctious and impatient until I hear from you again and the time passes heavily and slow with me, but nevertheless I try to keep hope alive and make myself think that all is well and for the best, and that we are in the hands of the Divine Ruler and that He disposeth all things for our own good. My health as good as it ever was.
