4 oclock Monday morning we had traveled 24 miles in trying to surprise Forests cavalry but when we got to their Camp they had been gone 12 hours. We then started back to camp and by taking a nearer cut we reached our camp by traveling 14 miles but did not get back until night and very foot sore and tired. We then rested one day and then started on the march again but in a direction that was not expected by us as we started for Nashville but only remained there one night and then forward and here we are at Bowling Green after 7 days marching from McMinnville which is an avrage of about 22 miles per day and the roads very dusty and in many places several miles between water: the last day and night we marched 36 miles and to take the trip through I say I think there has been no better marching done by any brigade in the service. We arrived here yesterday evening but have not unloaded our wagons but are awaiting orders evry moment to
