Camp at Silver Springs Tenn. Nov. 18th 1862 Mrs. Sarah Davis Dear Wife Five days since I received yours of the 2nd & 4th inst and yesterday I received one which you wrote Aug. 17th which although late in arriving contained Some items of news to me. I am extreamly greived to hear of your continued poor health and also the feeble condition of our dear little babe and fear that your change of residence has not contributed much to your physical benefit. I last wrote to you about the 8th inst while encamped on the Cumberland River near Galatin The 9th inst we marched from there to this place which is Situated on the Nasvhille and Lebanon pike 20 miles East from Nashville and 12 west from Lebanon and 13 miles from Gallatin. We are continually harrassed by Morgans Cavalry along our out posts and there is not a day passes over but what some of our men are captured by Some of their bold and daredevil adventures. And Romances does not tell of more brave and daring exploits than has been done by them within the last 2 weeks. They have captured clothing of our men so that they are able to dress like us therefore they are often among our men before they have the least suspicion of them being an enemy When we ware marching here from Gallatin they captured 40 of the 17th Ind, who ware Stragling behind the train. They come up behind them on the Same road that we had marched ove only a few minutes before and being dressed like our Cavalry they thought them our own men until they ware very uncerimoniously ordered to lay down their arms, which they ware compelled to do without fireing a gun.
