We have plenty of evrything to eat now except butter and that we cannot get at any price. If the R.R. was in operations between Louisville and Nashville I would have you Send me Some by Express but it is not and I am fearful will not be in time for it to reach me was it sent before we will have to march from here. We get the Cin & Louisville daileys evry day one & two days after publication So we are not as much behind times as we are Sometims Give my Compliments to Miss Bar and tell her I thank her Kindly for the interest she takes in teaching our little girls and that I receive her compliments in regard to them particularly Orrilla with all due modesty. And by the way tell her that Capt McKinney Sends his respects to her and thinks he has met her at Some former time. He is not sure of ever Seeing her but has frequently met her Sisters at their relatives near Granfordsville. By the way he claims a distant relationship. My respects to all and my love to you and the children. Write often and direct to Nashville is the request of your Affectionate Husband A. F. Davis Miss Nan. Davis My Dear little daughter I received Orrillas letter a few days Since and you cannot immagine how well pleased I was to hear that you was well and that you was getting along So well and learning So fast under the tuition of your excellent teacher Miss Bar, and hope you will Still continue to make rapid improvement and by deligence and close application you will soon be able to write me a letter. I am also very glad to see that Orrilla can write So good a letter and tell your Mother that she must look sharp or Orrilla will soon beat her writing a letter. I would be glad to be able to come and See you all but I cannot now but I hope this wicked war will Soon be over and then I can come and Stay with you all the time. Oh how I would like to see your little Sister Harriett Malissa for I cannot immagine how she looks, but if I was to see her she would not Know me and perhaps would cry if I would touch her. No More this time from your affectionate Father A. F. Davis
