No paymaster yet, Dont know when to look for him. September. October November and December now due Got just $1 left pay that for washing tomorrow. Murfreesburo Tenn. January 18th 1863 Mrs Sara Davis My dear wife After a Silence of 5 or 6 days I will again Spend a few moments in writing to the loved ones at home. Hoping it will find them as it leaves me that is in good health. I received your Kind and encouraging letter of the 28th ult. 4 or 5 days Since and before I quit you will Know why I have not answered it Sooner. You cannot immagine the joy it gave me to hear that you was well enough once more to be able to ride a horse I am also well pleased to hear of the course of medicine and treatment that you are taking and I believe that if you follow it up Steady and long enough that it will finally cure you. The shoulder braces and Supporters you recollect I have been in favor of and wanted you to use them You ask who Tipp McClure is All I Know of him is that he is Orderly or 1sc Sergeant of Co "K, and lives Somewhere near Linden and says he Knows En, Sam. & Mark. He is a noble fellow but I fear will never be able to carry a musket again as he is badly wounded and will always be a cripple I fear but he thinks not. You appear to to find fault with Gen Rosecrans and Buell, and Say things look dark. I say they not only look dark but black and I will tell you what I think makes it dark and that is nothing more nor less than the Damnable and Hell born party Spirit at home, which is doing more towards running the country and is encourageing the Rebels more than all the defeats that our Army has ever Sustained The prisoners we take mockingly exult over us and point us to the clamor among the people of the north and Say it is doing more for them than their Army. I Still hold out for Gen. Buell and think I have had as good a chance to judge him as any one who is at home and Knows nothing only as he hears it doled out by interrested partisans, And as for Gen. Rosecrans I say that I do not believe any other Genl. in our Army in either the East or West would have whipped Bragg at Murfreesboro In place of his remaining 5 or 6 miles in the rear dureing battle and trusting to his aids to bring him the news of the progress of the battle, he was right there to see for himself and where bullets flew thickest and danger was greatest, there he thought he could do most good and there he went in person in place of Sending (Verically, from bottom left:-) Been no mail for 4 days dont Know whats up Morgan [?
