vaccinated he only took [barialoid?] and as all in the Regt have been vaccinated it is not expected to spread the disease to any extent although some may have the [barialoid?]. When the Rebs left here they had a great many cases of smallpox which they left on our hands but I have heard of none of our men taking it. The health is generally good here with some few cases of fever and some ague and one man in the Regt died about a week since with congestive chills. I received the stamps you sent me but [nora apple?]. Ferman also sent me some stamps so that for the present I have plenty. I have had to use a great many stamps since the battle as I had to write a great many letters to the friends of the killed and wounded and also had to send descriptive rolls to all the wounded and as none of them had money I had to stamp their letters containg the rolls; and those writing for information of dead and wounded hardly ever thought of enclose a stamp, but now that rush is over so I do not think I will run short again. You wanted to know why I did not mention Lient [name?] name in my letter to the Herald that question has been asked in one dozen different letters from Liberty. All I have to say is that it is the Editors fault that his name did not appear in the letter for I mentioned his as favorably as I did any of the others but in printing it his name by some means was left out and I am sorry for it. His people think him and me have had a falling out but not so. You want to know when my time is out. I dont know myself some say Apr. 25. and others say June 14th. You want to know what you will do when our note comes due. All you will have to do will be this that when I get my money here I will send it to you and you can take up the note but I am almost sure that I will not be able to pay it all the 15 of March but will be able to as soon as I get it from the goverment. And one good thing is he cannot close the mortgage before the last note
