in the woods there was a camping grounds where some of our troops had been encamped but had left it but a few days. While there they had dug various holes or wells in the ground for the purpose of getting water which ware from 4 to 6 feet deep. And your humble servt had the good luck to walk into one of them where the water come up to my arms, but I soon crawled out and started on but had not gone over 100 yds when I walked into a hole or cleft among the rocks and in searching for the bottom of that I found the drink just come up to my chin. So I crawled out of that pretty well satisfied that being in a heavy rain 8 or 10 hours and two immersions in succession had rather a tendency to make a mans clothes somewhat damp. But I soon got to camp and hunted up some dry ones and was soon all right. In passing through the quarters the next morning the cry would be repeated of Who fell in the well and echo would answer Davis. Since that time we have had good weather until today about 10 oclock A.M. it commenced raining again and has rained hard ever since but it is quite warm. The health of the boys is generally good and my own is excellent. I am still in command of Co "K" but Bedford will take command the 1st of March and that will relieve me. I see in the today's paper that Congress is about passing a Conscript Act. God Heed
