I think the copperheads of the north have overdone themselves and in trying to bite the loyal citizens they have missed their mark and bit themselves and are now writhing in agony from the effects of their own poison. And I think the Conscript bill will cause some of them to writhe worse than ever before many months. They may talk Politick and treason at home as much as they please but they cannot inculcate their damnable doctrines into the soldiers who are in the field Cap McCutchen Starts home tomorrow but as you are at home and he does not pass near there I will not send my trunk but I may send it by Express if it does not cost more then it is worth to do so I hope that by this time you have got fairly settled in you new home and I shall look for a long letter from you and the children soon and wont be satisfied until I get it. Sering, Burgess, Crist, Rector [Beaue?] and Walton are all well. H C Putnam has returned and is fairly well of his wound. Colkins & Wm. Macy are still away Now write soon and oblige your Affectionate Husband, A.F.Davis (Vertically down, from top left:-) Did the Piece of my Sword ever reach Liberty.
