About one month since I wrote a letter to Nan. but have never heard whether She got it or not I sent it to Clarks Hill in care of her Grand Pa. I have been with my own Company for about 10 days and have just this moment received an order to take command of Co F. I guess they keep me for a Substitute to call on at any time when they need someone to take charge of a Company but I am tired of it but I have to Stand it. In the letter I wrote to you & sent with the last money package I Stated who were put on the roll of honor from this company. The same order that ordered that roll also ordered that 3 men out of each company among those placed on the roll and two Sergts and three Corporals out of the Regt and all under the command of one of the Officers on the roll should be mounted and form what would be called a light brigade and was to have tents etc seperate from their Regt. and remain at Brigade head quarters and be exemp from all guard and picket duty and be used as Scouts etc. I presume that as soon as they can get equipments etc. they will be organized and I will go as the Officer from this Regt. There will no doubt be a great deal of hard riding to do but it is considered as a mark of honor and we wont have to walk therefore we are willing to go. I believe I have written about all that will interrest you at this time so I will come to a close soon. Tell the children I hope soon to have a letter from them and also tell Mother she has not written to me for a very long time. You must excuse my Scrawling manner of writing this for I am in a hurry to get through to go on Drill. No more only write soon and oblige your Affectionate Husband A.F. Davis
