There is no news worth writing from here as evrything is perfectly quiet in this Department, but all thoughts are now centered on the Army of the Missippi and we tremble for the final result of their present herculean undertaking but hope for the best. Gen. Grant So far has proven himself the man of the War; therefore we hope for the best, and should he prove successful and take Vickburg it will be a long Stride towards an end of the war, and God Speed the day. There was no demonstrations of joy such as cheering manifested here on the receipt of the news of success as we have learned here to be sure that we are out of the woods before we yell. There was considerable amount of noise made over the news some few weeks since that one Jo Hooker had won a great victory but now we have come to the conclusion that all that noise was wasted and that a few such Victories as that would stagger the foundations of this Goverment consideraby. There is various rumors going as to how long we will remain here. Some have it that we will march in one or two days and Seem to have their information from good authority while others equally as well posted Say we are only going to change our camping ground but time alone will disclose who are right, if either The health is Still good, here. Serg Cole of our Company is getting better Slowly. I have had the headache So hard all the afternoon that I did not go on drill which is the first duty I have missed on account of ill health for 18 months I am Still suffering considerable from the effects of it and
