Dont get too mad about the Sword for I guess it will come to hand soon. I am looking for it evry day as I sent the money to Louisville last monday to pay charges and it is time it was here. I guess if it does not come up and you have a receipt for it the Express Co will have to fork over. We have been ready to march at a moments notice now for about one week and the boys have three days rations in their haversacks and four days ration in their knapsack making Seven days in all but when we will Start I cannot say. Maybe tonight maybe tomorrow maybe in a week and maybe not for months. Some of Braggs forces made an attact on Our men at Franklin on thursday last but were whipped and driven back but what the loose was on either side I cannot say as we have not heard. I was told today by Gen. Wagner that we would not make a general forward movement from here until Vicksburg was taken by Grants forces. The news from there today looks like that would not be very long. I received a few lines from Ferman a few days since in which was enclosed his Photograph and a very acceptable present it was. I was very much surprised to hear that Wm. Lee was still in the Service, as I saw his Capt, (Finn) some 3 or 4 weeks since and he told me that Wm was discharged. There was a man hung here yesterday for murder. The execution took place about 1/2 mile from here and nearly all the boys in the company went over but I did not go. There is several now under sentence
