Brigade that showed a cleaner set of arms than was shown here last Saturday, and when I tell you that a shot of rust anywhere on the gun as large as a pin head it would be condemed, then you can judge how they ware I am happy to hear such good encouragement from Henry, and I believe that I will succeed, Hope so at least. I would not be in a particular hurry about getting improvements put up as such a thing might happen that I would get home in time to have it built before the bad weather sets in. But then you perhapse think I am counting chickens before the Eggs are laid, and maybe I am I got a letter from Ferman a few days since, Will answer it soon, Am very sorry to hear that John Piles is in such a bad fix. I shall look very strongly for the Herald of this week about sunday next, We get the daileys regular now, and the news is most cheering, I presume you have got the $225.00 which I sent you last sunday before this time Lights out, has sounded so I must close for tonight and maybe thing of somethig more to write by moring, Write soon your affectionate husband, A.F.Davis (Upside -down, at head of page:-) It is now Tuesday Aug 4, and the mail has just (Continued, vertically down from top left:-) arrived but no mail for me. Beaver got a letter from home and gives the news of John (Continued, at bottom of page:-) Pile haveing his leg amputated. No news of importance since yesterday
