In place of Standing like men they run like Cowards (which they are) which broke our lines and allowed the enemy to get in the rear of a part of Our forces and then our men would have to cut their way out, and in doing so they often used the Bayonet & Buts of their guns to break through the Rebel lines. I have not the least idea what the numbers of Killed and wounded on our Side amounts to but one thing I am glad to see that a very large amount of our men ware but Slightly wounded and are either on duty or will be in a vey short time. The main reason of this is owing to the fact that a large part of LongStreets men are armed with the Smoothe bore muskets and use buck Shot in their cartridges which rarely ever makes a dangerous wound. The enemy are immediately on our front and Skirmishing going on nearly all the time. His forces are all Said to be on and this side of Missionary ridge which is a circular hill extending in a circle arond the the South side of the town and about 5 miles out Some of their camp are visable with the naked eye from our Camp and it is reported that they are fortifying which no doubt is true. Perhaps you will ask what we are doing and I will answer by saying that we are not idle but are putting our house in order to receive a
