Grant is not going to be idle at all. The fall of V. seems to be the signal for a general break up and to day almost the whole army is on the way - some going into the city - others to the Big Black to attend to Johnson and are scattering in evry direction. How I wish this war was over or at least that Will was out of it. I am very glad I came down when I did for if I had waited until now I could not get to Will at all - and then I did without any trouble. What are you all doing in Iowa now-a-days - Has thee succeeded in finding a hand yet or not, and when is the going down to Makanda. I have not tasted one mouthful of fruit since I came - have not Seen a peach yet - and I'd give a great deal to have some - I did have a few plums once though - that
