so for said the Col. "Oh! I was looking at that secesh woman said the man." Col. B. thought that too good to keep & came back to tell it - the man thought I was a rebel captured by the 15th and wanted to see what they looked like. Col Sanders of the 16th had just been telling me that if we got in a fight - the 16th wd. defend me & my buggy with their lives - and he told me if I was going to turn secesh he wd. not vouch for the 16th defending me however he might feel inclined to fulfill his share of the contract after staying there awhile we then marched on and got into our new camp about four o'clock, on the famous battle ground of Champion Hill - we stayed there one day, and then the 15th was ordered to march on a mile and half farther and stay for one night and be ready to march at 5 the next morning for Jackson - as the advance guard to an ammunition train of 300 wagons - for
