Camp Big Black Bridge July 27th 1863 My Dear Mother When I last wrote thee we were at Clinton, and the next day after that the Brigade was ordered to Bolton - ten miles back - over the road we had come. We went back and expected to stay there a week or two - but next day were ordered to move on back to Vicksburg. We camped in an immense woods that night and at day light were on the march again. We met all of Ords soldiers, Shermans, and several other Brigades who were all on their way to V. I believe Genl. Grant does not intend to hold Jackson - the rebels have given up the place and gone into the interim We came for 3 miles past this Bridge and only
