thought I would have a letter from Mary Randall ere this but have not yet. I have not had only Ells that came yesterday since I came down aside from thine. If I had thought thee would have stayed in Juneau so long I'd have had thee send thy letters on. I do not believe thee will get off at all - thee will put if off from day to day and finally conclude thee can't go at all I expect. I will send this to Juneau and a note to M. so that thee will have late news at both places - We have not started for Natchez yet - do not know just when we will - I want to go there so much - and am so afraid we will not. Genl. Grant is making a chain of forts all round the city inside of the ones the rebels erected - they are so far out and it makes such a long line to gaurd. The city is in fine condition
