and condensed milk if we will use it.  It is very nice in coffee but not fit for anything else I think.  We could have plenty of rice too but a soldier turns up his nose at that - he will go without eating almost before coming to rice - I like it very well but Will does not want me to eat it - as it is very much like the little girl said of the cheese - "it is too binding for me" - Genl. Grant is sending a good many troops down the River to Port Hudson - and they all think it looks like a design on Mobile - early in the fall. Genl. Banks & staff was in V. not long since consulting with Grant and the latter is now down the river some where - Natchez it is thought - When he returns we will know if we go down V. looked badly used up when we got it, scarcely a house but was damaged in some way - and some of them almost demolished.  I saw a number with the lower stories all taken out clean - and many of the citizens
