Boat and they came for us in a Tug. Took us over and after dinner we went all over the master fleet saw the big shells such as our navy battered up V. with - then they took us away up the river in the Tug & we had a nice time - there were but 4 ladies in the party. To-morrow we are invited to dine at the Washington Hotel here by one of the Naval officers and I expect we will have a fine dinner. The Naval officers live in the best of style and on the fat of the land. There are not very many Officers wives here. So many have gone below - to Natchez & New Orleans. I suppose we will not go to Natchez and I am so sorry - for I did want to go so & see Sallie Stokes - I sent thee a letter directed to Juneau which thee will not get I presume - it was the same date as the one thee will get last at Matanda. Did thee tell the Post Master to send
