On Board. decatur St. Louis Nov 4 1862 Dear Parents I write yous these few lines to inform you that I am well and that these few lines will find you in good health. we had a very Pleasant trip down here and arrived yesterday afternoon was marched ashore, staid about one hour when we where marched Back aboard the Boat untill we could get a Boat to take us to heleana Arkansas. they tried to get a Boat yesterday But Could not get one that would suit we may Leave here this evening if we get a Boat if not we will go out to Benton Barracks yesterday they Came a yong man aboard as soon as we landed to know if we ware aboard to take me up to ant jane's She had him employed to wach for us and let her know as soon as we arrived. Put I sorry that I could not go up to see her she is in the country as soon as the girls heard that we Could not go up to see them they Came down to the Boat and Brought me some Pies - and last night they sent me a handsome necktie & one for John also some oranges & apples and nice Pocket handerchief and several other articles they are very
