On Board Hiawatha at Helena Arkansas Nov 13 1862 Dear Parents I take this opportunity of writing you these few lines to inform you of our safe arrival at this Place after one weeks salling & knocking about we have been just one week coming down where if the river was not in such a low state we would have got here three days ago we did not Leave St Louis for two days after John Left and they have not got here yet tha got aground at Pt Pleasant Mo & [again?] tuesday a Boat was sent from memphis to take them off and we expect them here to night or in the morning we got aground three times comming down the last time was last night
