3 Out in advance as skirmishs on the right of the regiment we advanced very cautiously with our eyes open Some 3/4 of a Miles through a heavy timber and Brush before we saw any of the rebels as I was crossing a wood road in the timber I Discovered Men riding around to our right with our uniforms on them except the Cap Supposing them to be our Men we halted with our guns cocked when to our Surprise we Saw a Company of them riding around to our right in butter nut and blue uniforms we New then that they were rebels and we poured a few Volleys at them that Changed their porpose & drove them Back though they were trying to flank us
