And had it not been for the way that we poured it to them they would have everyone of our company that was in the fight as we had got entirely out of sight of the regiment and would have no support and they have got us off out of reach before assistance could reach us but the Boys stood up to the work Bravely the fight lasted about three hours our regiment had five wounded none hurt in our company the Iowa 30th lost heavily they marched in line of Battle through an open field to within three rods of the rebels were they were all dismounted in the wood when the rebels opened a heavy fire on them and drove them back in confusion killing their Colonel one captain and a good many others the colonel of the 30 like us thought them to Be our own men and would not let his men fire on them untill the rebels poured it to them after they run (the 30) the fourth Iowa made a charge on them and drove them
