SATURDAY, APRIL 9, 1864. "A" in the Rear. Roads bad and Mules fatigued hence Marching slow - made 22 Miles and Encamped 3 miles from Shell Mound toward whitesides. The Supply of Forge is abundant and horses doing tolerably well. SUNDAY 10 Lt Neill and Myself slept in a Small Shelter Tent very comfortably although it did drizzle rain all night. Made Whitesides in forenoon and found Wm [Mcready?] & J.M. Patterson in the Telegraph Office made 12 miles and encamped at [Hanahatchee?]. MONDAY 11 Feel about as usual having enjoyed my last nights Rest hugely. Made Chattanooga about noon and moved out toward and encamped in a nice grass Plot having crossed Lookout Point on a good Military Mcadamized Road Made about 10 Miles
