SUNDAY, MAY 15, 1864. Sabbath Morn - A damp cold morning for the season of the year. - yet the last four nights have been of the same character - One can wear an over Coat until ten O'Clock without being uncomfortably warm, Cannonading commenced about 7 O'Clock this morning at a distance of ten miles so far could not hear musketry even if the Infantry were engaged. MONDAY 16 A fine spring Morning - The Birds are singing unconscious of the work of death now around them, The Cannon is not to be heard now 9 O'Clock in morning. Expect to Join my Command soon as a Horse is sent Back for me which am looking for hourly - Feel [doncy?] yet, The Hospital is Ordered up to Resaca and no Ambulances to move the wounded in hence could not obey the Order. Learned that Johnson skadaddled from Resaca last night about midnight and made a Charge on our lines to Cover his Retreat and in turn we charged them and Captured their works at Resaca, and the calculation is to have the R.R. completed to that point immediately from which point the wounded will be conveyed to Rear Feel somewhat improved TUESDAY 17 Rained a slight shower last night and this morning looks dull but not uncomfortably Cold Are awaiting means of Transportation for the sick and wounded to Resaca - The point to which our army is now moving we in the Rear cannot determine All the wounded was safely Landed at Resica Late in afternoon without suffering much - Found the Cars in ahead and about 2000 Prisoners on board bound for the north. Found an Ambulance going direct to my command concluded while I had the chance of Riding would go to my Command although very unwell Hence about 5 O'Clock P.M. started and Reached Command at daylight having traveled all night - I [?] [?] by a train of Wagons some ten miles in Length. - Concluded the march tolerably well traveled 16 miles
