MONDAY, MAY 30, 1864. Went in Charge of 9 men to escort a Train out twelve miles from Adairsville Ga. to a River Called the Oostinalla where we loaded into Wagons 56 Bales of Cotton Stored Away by some Jew where we found it -- Got to Camp after dark all the men very tired having to handle the Cotton and Only a few having any-thing to eat. TUESDAY 31 Making Monthly Returns and Monthly Inspection Reports. And Seeing that all the horses were properly Cared for. Weather warm the duty for men heavy. Rec. a Letter from Sister Sarah And One from my former Colored Servt Geo. Campbell, Myself and 25 Men are detailed to go after Cotton to-morrow at 7 A.M. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1 Have to put our men in duty every other day - Was ready to move out with a squad of men at 7 - but it was Counter Manded - Lt Hill was out twice with our Co. half at a time scouting the Country for 8, or 10 miles using up our horses backs - have 18 Reports Unserviceable
