MONDAY, JUNE 20, 1864. Went to Kingston to have thirty men not paid to receive their money got paid and time was ready to start Had a heavy Rain. two of our men Cook and McCarty Staid in town and got into the guard house. Cook Released but McCarty Retained on the 21st Rained heavy on us (Vertically, over entry:-) About half our men were so drunk they did not know what they were doing got into camp about eight O'clock at night Corpl Ward Could not ride [at?] all and Walt [Arpin?] were drunk Had to assist the men off horses and into quarters and Unsaddle their Horses and Feed them. TUESDAY 21 Raining constant until about 4 O'Clock P.M. Went to Kingston to try and obtain pay for [Pvts?] Shults, Devine and Elsen who were Courtmarshalled but the Remarks on the Muster Rolls not showing the true state of the Case were not payed. Went to find Guard about four Miles above Gillum's Bridge WEDNESDAY 22 was at Ford all night - duty light place to have reserve very dirty Very warm plenty of Berries such as Blackberries and Rhasp- was Relieved and Returned to Camp about night
