WEDNESDAY, JULY 20, 1864. Quite an excitement was created yesterday by the Rumor of some four thousand Rebs going to our Rear. went out under Maj Sanderson four hundred Strong but found nothing after Riding to Midnight slept in the ground Pillow a saddle was off.day or Rather of the night  THURSDAY 21 Moved out at daylight - passed through Statesborough and thence to [Uharly's?] town and fed our horses. thence to Gallam's Bridge thence to Camp finding no Enemy - The weather was almost intolerable to me but I made it through safely. there was quite an excitement in Camp after we left.  FRIDAY 22 have my business almost ass well up to date as any Co. in the Regt. Some person in my co. signed my name for a canteen of whiskey in the comsy Learned that atlanta was in the possession of our troops. have as little duty to do here as have had since entering the service. Lt. Perry has the Hemerage of the Right Lung.
