MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 1864. Staid in Quarters all day being very much worried by riding in the sun yesterday while visiting my Pickets One (1) death in the Reg TUESDAY 2 Weather Warm nights cool - Cannot endure Riding in the sun very well - Engaged Making Final Statements & inventory of Effects of All the men that died in the Co. since it Organization. Under Marching orders with 3 days Rations WEDNESDAY 3 Moved out about 10 O'Clock forenoon rode all day through the sun and Encamped a small stream about 16 miles from Cartersville Ga in the Atlana Mountains. being the "A" advance Guard of the division Cmdg. by Genl Kilpatrick. Road good but mountainous
