SATURDAY, AUGUST 13, 1864. Slept well during Night. Was detailed on Picket Relieved for the Purpose of going in Review 2nd Brig Reviewed by Genl. Kilpatrick and Eulogized by him. Received two Letters from home one from Jane and other from Hannah. Alex some better Pa's no better - Rained Slightly. SUNDAY 14 Went on Picket with 22 men - and reviewed by Col Sanderson - duty both in Camp and on Picket light - The People are left very destitute and Soldiers live on green Corn. MONDAY 15 Received notice about day light that our Regt. had moved out with one (1) days Forage and three (3) days Rations - Called in my Pickets and returned to Camp and found every thing moved. Joined my Command at Sandtown on the Chattahoochee River and the div under Genl Kilpatrick and Cut the Atlanta Westpoint R.R. about 18 miles from Atlanta and Encamped (Vertically, at right:-) about 3 miles from where (Upside-down above entry:-) the road was cut having traveled about seventeen (17) miles.
