SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 1864. Up at daylight but did not move out before noon then moved toward flint River and went into line then moved to the Rear to guard our wagon train which came up about sundown when we escorted them into Camp, then about midnight we received orders to move to the front to Relieve the infantry which we did. slept little as we had no orders to dismount but I took the liberty to dismount. SUNDAY 4 Sunday Up early. fed horses on green corn, of which we have plenty and feed our horses all they will eat, sweet Potatoes very plenty - eat all we want. There is plenty of every thing in this section, understand this is the extent of our move, have half of my squadron on duty at Barricade Horses saddled constantly, lay down to sleep, nights very cool. Lost all my clothes through carelessness of servt MONDAY 5 Monday Up at daylight. went into line of Battle twice during forenoon only a false alarm. The understanding is we are to fall back to atlanta and the move is to commence with us at 7 O'Clock this eve,- supper over at 5 P.M. into line at 6.P.M.- Moved out about [9?] O'Clock at night - marched through woods, over Rails, over logs, through lanes through streams &c the night being dark and wet - Rained very hard during the afternoon - Picket firing heard all night, we went into camp near Jonesboro Ga. about two (2) hours before daylight - all tired and sleepy. Our horses have plenty to eat. but our Rations of Hard Bread is scarce.
