DECEMBER 25. Sunday Christmas Sumter Prison near Andersonville Ga" A gloomy Christmas for us Rainy & Cold and no shelter Rations corn bread rice & molases We have the report that Jeff Davis is dead, Have nothing reliable of Army movements 26. Monday Drizly disagreeable morning There were no Prisoners in here when we camp There are now about 3500 Prisoners in this Prison Four men died last night - two of suffication 27. Tuesday All the competive Boys of the 17th Iowa including A. J. Shearer of the 8th calvy, are in this Prison - all well, 300 sick from the Hospital came inside to day
