June & cartridges 9th no bread for breakfast at about 11 oClock our 2nd & 3rd brigades & 5th Mich battery marched out about 4 miles to reconoiter on our front We found the enemy in their front works with flag floating we threw out a skirmish line & drove back their skirmishers got two pieces ot artillery in position & shelled the out of their works at the same time we had a very heavy Shower, we then fell back as camp arrived
