our regt go on a reconn aisance toward Marietta about 3 mile saw where the rebs had left some splendid earth works passed a house that had the most women in that I have seen since we came in to Ga, July 4th on picket heavy cannonading in front of us commenced last night & continues all day at times we can faintly hear musketry I have been in a swamp in front of our lines
