July we go into camp near the r.r. 7th lay in camp all day occasionally we can hear a cannon & some musket 8th we were called up at 2 1/2 oclock morning orders to be ready to march at 4. lay in reading until after sun rise then marched across the r.r. and up the river, arrived at the river at the mouth of Soap Creek here we ran a pontoon across with but little resistance there was some rebs
