24th took the cars about four oclock for N.ville arrived at Nashville in the evening from there to Columbia where we arrived on the morning of the 25th marched through Columbia where we find the people in a great excitement about our evacuating the town, we take a position & fortify half of regt go on the Skirmish line Sharp Skirmishing going on on our left & considerable cannonading
