"The U.S. CHRISTIAN COMMISSION sends this sheet as a messenger between the soldier and his home. Let it hasten to those who wait for tidings. Dec 15th before daylight in the morning we were called up to get our breakfast & break up camp about sun-rise we fell in & marched to the right untill we came near the west end of town then moved front through our main works. just as we passed out the works the fog cleared away & presented to our view troops moving on all sides of us we could plainly see that it was a general movement, we marched on in a South westerly direction & soon heard skirmishing in front our Corps was kept as a reserve but when we came in sight of the rebs (they were on a hill) the boys soon got anxious to take them in & away
