this mixture she sprinkled some sugar. then a new idea seemed to strike her, she first put some salt on her plate then carved out a slice from a cheese in front of her took it up in her fingers, nibbled it & then put it down among the rice & plums & gave them each a turn about into her mouth, her brother yesterday seemed to think sardines & roast beef a most delicious mixture, these people come from Laurence, Mass. It is one of their manufacturing towns. but they are by no means snobs. We are now on the banks of Newfoundland which extend about 500 miles from the land. The Newfoundland fishery is carried on above 50 miles from
