in the planks. left at 4 P.M. per steamer Montreal, this is a truly magnificent boat an upper Saloon running from stem to stern with the exception of the forecastle berths arranged round this. a dining saloon below & other berths & below that the bar room & cargoe. She was built on the Clyde & sent over in compartments & this is cheaper than if she had been built out here. It was a most enjoyable steam up, the water like a polished mirror, the breadth varying from 1 to 2 miles, near Montreal & low grazing country, It was beautiful to see the rafts float by towed by steamers
