Camp 4" Iowa Cavalry April 7th 1864 Miss Jennie Scott Dear Friend This is a rainy evening and I am alone in our Comfortable little tent I wish you could peep in for a moment and see how pleasantly we are situated. Milt and I have a good tent to our selves since Captain went home to night - Milt is on picket I am so sorry for him, but his good overcoat and gum blanket will keep him from getting wet. Milt and I are getting along finely. I like Milt as a Commaning officer much better than Captain Huff. but you must not tell Capt. - so, I have enjoyed myself very well since the company went home I have not been lonely at all. I have changed alittle since I left home I am not so fond of Company as I was while at home. I enjoy myself most when with a good friend or two. I have another very good friend in the Company. his name is Marsh. he says he remembers seeing you and Sallie at Mr. Guglees, at the time our Company was organized in Sidney. he has been sick along time in the Hospital at Keokuk Iowa, and very recently returned to the Co., he is a very fine young gentleman. Will Scott is well and looks as pleasantly as ever. I presume you get some very interesting letters from him. he is such an intelligent young man and writes (written along right:-) I enclose you a march flower of the Sunny South.
