The health of the Regt is not very good there is a great many sick Wm Murray is very sick he has not had his right mind for several days Wm Paul was left at West Plains Mo. the last I heard him he was not expected to live. H. Hoyt died at Springfield Mo. there is quite a number of boys left [Co. C?]. I believe you was not acquainted with any of them. W. F. Scott is well. he is one of the best boys I ever saw. I will never forget the young men that is kind to me while I am soldering, Lieut Hooper is going to start home in a few days perhapse. I will send this letter by him. Lieut. Rust has been promoted to Regimental quartermaster Engles has got a promotion in Curtises Staff (or at least he has been sent for by Curtis) We will go from here to Little rock it is a hundred mi. I dont know when I will have an oppertunity to write a gain you must be cheerful and happy if there is war in our country, if we put our trust in God he will take care of us at home or in the army When you wander in the garden please remember your soldier friends Oh how pleasant it would be to spend an eavening in the garden with my dear friends at Austin. This is sweet may I always enjoyed my self so well in this month when I was at home, it is very warm here now. as warm as it would be there in july: I saw a list of the killed and wounded men in Lieut. Days Company that went from Sidney there was one man killed by the name of Daniel Scott wasent there a young man by that name lived at Mr Allred farm. I suppose John Brown had an oppertunity of showing his gallantry at the Pittsburg battle. but it has been reported that the regiment he is in run. I suppose you have heard more a bout it than I have; you said in one of your letters that must not offended at Milt for writing a bout that picture you need not be afraid of that. how could I get angry with a person that has been so good a friend to me. I expect you will be mad at him for he was the one I offered to sell it to and he would not give me a quarter of a dollar for it. now you see how much he thinks of you. You must not be angry with me for showing that letter to Will Murray. Please write soon and tell me whether you are married or not if you are not wait untill the war is over for I would like to be at your wedding. I know you will be tired of this long poor letter. I have been talking with Milt he is getting to be what I call an abolitionist he says I am proslavery. I tell him I am a union boy I did not leave home to fight for the negroes, I left home to fight for the Stars and Stripes and when they wave over all the South, I will come home to see my own dear Jennie Asahel
