I will tell you how Milt and spent the 4th. we wer put on picket guard three miles from camp it was a very dangerous post we had to keep ourselves concealed all the time we wer to watch the rebels if they should attempt to cross Black R. we saw a good many but they did not come very near us just at dark one of the boys came to us and told us that Vicksburg was ours, with 47000 prisoners, and that we could go to camp and rest easy. you may be sure there was some happy boys. befor we got to Camp we met the army mooveing to wards Johnson, or a part of the army, they are now crossing Black R. to
