At 7 P.M. we rec'd orders to be ready to march. lay down to sleep. at 10' we were shelled by the Johnnies. Our batteries replied and they seeming satisfied, only firing an occasional shot during the night, enough to keep us in the ditches, 27" At 4 AM we fell in and started to the right evacuating our line of works After going a mile formed a line (our brig) covering the left flank got breakfast & moved 3/4 mile further in rear of (Vertically, at left:-) One of 2" Minn deserted to enemy.
