8 during the night Report says that the rebels have possession of Washington having defeated our troops there Moved out at 7 A.M. towards the enemys Our brigade in rear of the division Halted 1 mile from camp and stacked arms where we waited two hours While here all kind of rumors reached us such as the rebels being surrounded, Rosseau taking prisoners fighting 6 miles ahead &c &c. We also hear that McClelland has taken 40000 prisoners Our division kept moving out passing several others on the way, all of their boys disliking the idea of
