(Vertically, at left:-) Monday 6th after going two miles we heard cannon ahead which was a skirmish beyond Springfield Passed through S and the scene of the skirmish where began to see dead horses, and other evidences of warm work between our advances and Braggs rear guard, Saw several wounded rebels, one mortally, Picked up several stragglers from the rebel force, Camped on a stream 7 miles from S - and 23 miles from Danville, A large amount of cavalry passed us this evening, and there is prospects of some work within 3 days. Made 17 miles to-day (Vertically, at left:-) Kirkendall wounded to day
